Opportunities to help define the virtual research environment at Oxford University

Oxford University has been awarded significant funding from the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) to develop infrastructure and tools for the next generation of collaborative research environments. We are seeking enthusiastic individuals with excellent technical development and project management skills to contribute to three Virtual Research Environment (VRE) projects over the next two years:

OUCS Research Technologies Service

The Research Technologies Service (RTS) is part of the Oxford University Computing Services (OUCS). The RTS brings together a number of local, national, and international initiatives focusing on the support of research and utilizing leading-edge technologies.   • Senior Systems Developer (RS2, ££,£££-££,££££) -- responsible for the management, development and implementation of technical services as part of Oxford's role in the Sakai VRE project, you will have several years experience of managing and contributing to technical development projects. You will be an accomplished Java programmer with a deep understanding of standards for portlets and portal frameworks. You will also have experience of developing and integrating the latest standards-based tools for access management (e.g. Shibboleth) or resource discovery (e.g. SRW/Z39.50). You will be effective at communicating with a wide range of people with whom the project will interact. You will be based within and benefit from the Computing Services' Research Technologies Service.
  • Senior Systems Developer (RS2, ££,£££-££,££££)-- responsible for the management, development and implementation of technical services for the IB VRE project, you will have several years experience of managing and contributing to technical development projects. You will be an accomplished Java programmer with a deep understanding of standards for portlets and portal frameworks. We hope you have some familiarity with computation grids and perhaps even the Globus Toolkit. In any case, you will be effective at communicating with a wide range of people with whom the project will interact. You will be based within and benefit from the Computing Services' Research Technologies Service.
