7. Exercise 7: reading your newsfeed from WebLearn

  1. Please omit this exercise unless you have a WebLearn account.
  2. Switch to the Firefox window containing the text of these Exercises.
  3. Find the text of Exercise 7.
  4. Click on the following link: http://www.weblearn.ox.ac.uk/
  5. Now log in to WebLearn.
  6. And go to a room where you can create a resource.
  7. To create a newsfeed resource, click on Create a new resource here
  8. Then click on News Feed Display
  9. Then enter some appropriate values in the Name, Title and Description textboxes.
  10. In the URL of Feed textbox, you need to enter the URL of a newsfeed, e.g.: http://rss.oucs.ox.ac.uk/running/username/rss10.xml
    where username is replaced by your Oxford username.
  11. Then click on the create now button.
  12. That has created the resource.
  13. Click on Back to menu of resources.
  14. The new resource can be viewed by scrolling to the bottom of this screen.
  15. It is best to configure the resource to display the titles of each news item as links.
  16. This can be done as follows.
    1. Find the Manage link that is associated with the new resource.
    2. Click on this link.
    3. Then click on Modify News Feed Display
    4. Ensure that the box to display summary entries, if available is checked.
    5. Ensure that the box to display the titles as links is checked.
    6. Ensure that the box to display the title of each entry is checked.
    7. Click on Save
    8. And then revisit the menu of resources.
