2. Exercise 2: adding an item to the newsfeed

In the menu on the left hand side
under Operations for authors,
you will see an operation labelled
Add an item.
You will only be able to use
the
Add an item
operation
successfully
if you are an author of a newsfeed.
When creating the
running/username newsfeed, you made yourself an author of that newsfeed. -
Click on the
Add an itemlink. - You should get a page headed Add an item with a pull down menu containing the newsfeeds where you can add items.

Click on the newsfeed with the name
running/username where username is replaced by your Oxford username. -
Click on the button labelled
add an item to the selected newsfeed. - You should get a page headed Add an item containing a lot of boxes, asking for details about the item you wish to add.
- Once again, the stars on this page indicate the boxes that need to be filled in.

In the title box, enter
some text like:
Training tonight -
In the summary box, enter
some text like:
Meet outside the University Club at 5.30pm - Do not change the other boxes.

Now click on the button labelled
preview the item with the above values. - You should now get a web page giving details of the item. There are two buttons. The first one allows you to make changes to this item. The second button allows you to add the item to the newsfeed.

Click on the button labelled
now add the above item to the newsfeed - It should report that This item has now been added.
