2. About the project

The DCOCE project was established to look at the use of digital certificates and public key infrastructure (PKI) within the complex environment that is Oxford University, with its (semi-) autonomous colleges and departments. Studying the deployment of digital certificates and documenting the challenges and successes in a pilot project at such an institution lead to greater 'real world' knowledge for the use of PKI at higher and further education institutions in the UK.

The emphasis for the project was to look into the use of X.509 digital certificates for authentication to services. For more information, see our PKI primer and background pages. These also include our formal aims.
