Handling primary sources in TEI XML

1. Transcribable features

Transcription is a special kind of encoding, in which the aim is to represent all the important features of a primary source without prejudging too much about it... hence the term diplomatic transcript.

Here are some of the kinds of features concerned:
  • letter forms
  • page layout
  • orthography
  • word division
  • punctuation
  • abbreviations
  • additions and deletions
  • errors and omissions
